ROOM 577 Jelmer Konjo
Jelmer Konjo (1993) grew up in Rotterdam and graduated in illustration at the Willem de Kooning Academy in 2018. During and after his studies he developed into a versatile artist who makes paintings, sculptures, drawings and installations, among other things.
Play and play are central to Konjo's work. He explores what play means for both children and adults and everyone in between. In this he is inspired by toys and how we organize and use public spaces in the field of play. He strongly believes that playfulness is important to be happy and to make the world more bearable and open. This conviction is also reflected in his creative process, in which he conducts fragmentary material research and makes use of unusual painting and drawing tools.
