ROOM 565 NIGHTSHOP (Ward van Gemert)
Nightshop is Ward van Gemert (1981). Ward’s work is at the intersection of art and design, where inspiration is found in the smallest everyday matters. The find of a postcard with a waving Mickey Mouse or the sight of one
a fully written toilet door along the German highway can lead to a new series of products.
These series continue to expand and develop. In the mostly colorful graphic work the boundaries are explored in a playful way between good and bad taste and between high and low (popular) culture. So can continue
Ward’s intervention to turn a disposable barbecue bowl into a high-end lamp and become oneboring second-hand office cupboard an object of value in a museum.
Nightshop's work is included in the permanent collection of Boijmans van Beuningen museum and is sold in various shops and galleries at home and abroad, including Galerie Vivid in Rotterdam, Mint London and Rosanna Orlandi Gallery in Milan. The work has been shown at fairs in Milan, New York, London, Paris, Berlin and
Dubai. Clients include designer Maarten Baas, Restaurant De Nieuwe Shop and Schiphol.
